Private Lesson Policies

Cost:  Please contact me for lesson costs. Generally, half hour times are set aside for those taking piano only.  Most students of all ages who are taking voice lessons benefit from an hour that includes beginning piano/theory. One-time lessons or coachings to prepare for auditions are welcome (these will be scheduled when times are available that week).

Discounts:  You can receive a discount if you choose to have a guaranteed-time lesson. With guaranteed-time lessons I make a commitment to you that I will hold a specific lesson time for you (weekly or bi-weekly) in exchange for your payment in advance.  I will honor school/religious holidays if I am notified in advance (at least by when you are paying for that month).

Cancellation for guaranteed-time lessons:  No-shows will be billed as a given lesson with no make-up.  In case of sickness the day of the lesson, please let me know as soon as possible.  Every attempt will be made to reschedule the lesson within the subsequent two weeks during open lesson times per instructor (generally these times are on weekends).  I will try to work with your schedule to find a time to substitute, but please realize this is a courtesy and not guaranteed. Please keep in mind you are paying to reserve a time. In case of instructor’s illness or instructor’s schedule conflict, the two week rule will not apply and the lesson will definitely be made up, even if tacked onto the end of the semester.

Payment: Payment for lessons can be made with cash or check at the lesson prior to the beginning of the new month.  Lessons will not be given without payment received.

Ending Lessons:  A 30-day notice is required before discontinuing guaranteed-time lessons.  The student is responsible for the tuition through this 30-day period.

Materials:  Instruction and music books are the purchasing responsibility of the student/student’s family.

Practice is essential to becoming a better musician.  Students will provide an assignment notebook where all assignments will be recorded.  It is the student’s responsibility to check in the notebook prior to every practice session to cover all assignments given and to bring this notebook and lesson material to each lesson.  If it becomes apparent that sufficient practicing is not being accomplished, lessons may be discontinued.

MUSIC BOOK RENTAL AGREEMENT

I am excited to offer select lesson and theory books for rent as an added service for my music students.  It has been my experience that most lesson books are looked at only during the short time they are used, and then become yet another thing to clutter up a home or a landfill.  By using and reusing lesson books, it is my hope to save you money and space, as well a trip to the music store.

At this time, I am happy to reduce the fee to $5.00 rental per book.  Repertoire books are generally not offered for rental because most students like to keep these for future reference.

A few rules for our agreement:

1. Only use wet-erase markers to write on the sheet protectors.  I will provide one marker with the book, but if it happens to become lost you can either
a. Replace with another WET-ERASE marker, fine point or
b. Pay $2.00 for a replacement marker from me.

2. Please treat the books with utmost care.  If the book(s) become lost or damaged beyond normal wear and tear you will be responsible for the replacement of the book(s).  If your book came in a binder there will be an additional $5.00 charge for the replacement of the binder and sheet protectors.

3. If your book comes with a CD it is a copy of the original, so if it becomes lost or damaged the replacement fee is only $2.00.
